Le Skål est l’unique organisation internationale qui compte en son sein tous les secteurs de l’industrie du tourisme. Les professionnels se réunissent aux niveaux local, national et international, dans une atmosphère d’amitié pour traiter de sujets dignes d’intérêt.
Le premier Club a été créé à Paris en 1932 par des membres d’agences de voyages et de compagnies aériennes qui participaient à un éducotour en Scandinavie. Une réelle amitié s’est forgée entre les participants.
 En 1934, le mouvement Skål s’étendit à différents pays et cette extension détermina la création de l’Association internationale des Skål-Clubs (AISC). Le président fondateur fut Florimond Volckaert. Depuis, et tout au long de son existence, le Skål participe à l’actualité avec plus de 22 000 membres professionnels du tourisme, appartenant à 500 clubs, répartis dans 80 pays du monde. Le Secrétariat général est situé à Torremolinos en Espagne.
Le Skål international comprend : un Comité exécutif de neuf membres, un Conseil international où sont représentés la majorité des pays et l’Assemblée générale.
Les Clubs et Comités Interrégionaux, accueillent les professionnels, favorisent le débat entre eux, et assument les tâches administratives. Annuellement ont lieu des Congrès nationaux et interrégionaux ainsi que le Congrès mondial au cours duquel les Clubs se réunissent pour prendre les grandes décisions concernant la vie du Skål.
Skål is the only international organization which brings together all branches of the travel and tourism industry. Representing the industry’s managers and executives, Skålleagues meet at local, national and international levels in an environment of friendship to discuss subjects of common interest.
The first club was founded in Paris in 1932 by travel trade managers who had been on an educational tour of Scandinavia and the idea of international friendship gained such popularity that in 1934, Skål achieved international status with the formation of the Association International des Skål clubs (A.I.S.C.), on the initiative of the first President of the Paris Skål Club and the man considered the «Father of Skål», Florimond Volckaert.
 From that modest beginning, Skål now has more than 22,000 members in over 500 Clubs, spread throughout 80 countries. As in other associations of professionals most Skål activities take place within the Clubs, but the movement also features National and Area Committees coming under the umbrella of the A.I.S.C. (Skål International), which has its own Secretariat in Torremolinos, Spain.
Skål is managed by an Executive Committee of nine members, elected by Club delegates to the General Assembly, which is held in conjunction with the World Congress. This five-day Congress is hosted by a different country each year, thus offering members and their companions the opportunity of observing, first hand, the travel and tourism industry potential of other countries.
